The Bears have decided to pass on Free Agent Cornerback Kelvin Hayden. Hayden visited with the team on Monday in Bourbonnais. He left Bouronnais without a deal though after having a physical.
Bears fans remember Hayden as the CB who picked off Rex Grossman during the 2006 Super Bowl and returned it for a touchdown. Ahhh, the memories.
It's unknown if the Bears are passing on the FA CB due to lingering health issues (neck) or, if they wish to get him at a cheaper price later in free agency. This could prove to benefit the team at a later date if Hayden is still available at a lower price.
For now, the Bears will have to settle for CB's Tim Jennings and Zach Bowman. The two CB's are entrenched in a battle for the 2nd CB slot on the 1st-team defense. If Bowman could stay healthy, he would appear to have the advantage over Jennings. If the Bears can bunker down and get Charles Tillman a consistent partner, the defense shall prosper. At times Tim Jennings, who started 13 games for the Bears last season, appeared to be the weakest link on the defense.
With the first pre-season game just 4 days away, expect Bowman or Jennings to make a push for the starting spot. Don't be surprised should Bowman come away with it.
