Brian Urlacher has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Urlacher had a phenomenal opener against the Falcons to start the season. Getting off on the right foot against a potent Atlanta offense was paramount in Urlacher's success. Matt Ryan started 7 for 7 before his first incompletion of the game came on a diving, acrobatic interception by Urlacher.
Urlacher had 10 tackles, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery touchdown. The defense rallied around Urlacher as they also played great games. Julius Peppers had 2 sacks, Henry Melton had 2 sacks, and Amobi Okoye had 1 sack as well. I would expect Peppers and Urlacher's names to be coming up a lot in the discussion for NFC defensive player of the week for the rest of the season.
The Bears defense led by Brian Urlacher was the only team in the NFL to not give up an offensive touchdown. The lone touchdown scored by the Falcons came on a tipped interception at the line by Jay Cutler.
This announcement comes on the same day the Bears announced Urlacher was taking a leave of absence. Urlacher has left the team and his status is unclear due to a personal matter involving the health of his mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian as he goes through this difficult time. If he decides to play on Sunday, it will be very emotional and all of Bears nation will be right behind him!
Do you think Urlacher will play against the Saints on Sunday? Let us know in the comments.
