Bears Safety Chris Harris Requests a Trade

A source familiar with the situation is reporting that Chris Harris has requested a trade and hopes to be moved before the trade deadline. Harris was benched and put on the inactive list for the Bears' victory over the Vikings on Sunday Night Football. The previous week Harris was solely responsible for giving up two 65+ yard touchdowns (Calvin Johnson TD catch, Jahvid Best TD run). Harris failed to be the last line of defense, as did Brandon Meriweather on both plays who was also benched.

Harris's representatives reached out to Jerry Angelo to get formal permission to seek a trade. According to the twitter account of his agency, he had been granted that permission.

Harris is a 7 year veteran coming off arguably the best season of his career. He was elected to the 2nd team of the all-pro tema last season. Harris played well in Week 1 against the Falcons but hurt his hamstring. He missed the following 3 weeks recovering and returned to the starting line-up on October 10th against the Detroit Lions. A couple days after the loss the team announced they were benching Harris and Meriweather in favor of Major Wright and Chris Conte.

Since Harris hadn't been extended at the conclusion of last season, it looks like he isn't in their future plans. If Harris is traded whoever trades for him will be responsible for the remaining $700,000 left of his $.1095 million salary.

He has played in 87 career games with 82 starts over the span of 7 seasons. He's compiled 467 tackles, 25 pass break-ups, and 15 interceptions, while forcing 12 fumbles.

We'll see how this thing shakes out I guess over the course of the next 48 hours. I think it's a distraction and a silly move for an injured veteran to make coming off his worst game as a Bear against the Lions. If we got a 3rd rounder for Greg Olsen, I can't imagine we would get more than a 6th round pick for Harris. Kind of sad since anything beyond the 5th round usually doesn't even make the practice squad in Chicago.
